Status: Partially Lost

Julia Clarete is a Filipino actress, singer, and most commonly known as one of the hosts of Philippines' longest-running television noon-time variety show, "Eat Bulaga". Clarete joined the show in 2005 and left the show in 2016.

Incident

During a segment called "Pinoy Henyo" on Eat Bulaga in 2005, which was commonly headed by her co-host, Allan K., Clarete had entered the glass tank on which the soap powdered bubbles began to fill inside it. Her role is to guess what word is written above the tank that is shown to the audience but is blinded to her and said word was "tipaklong" (eng. 'grasshopper'). Clarete begins to complain of shortness of breath, but Allan K. initially jokes that Clarete did not take a bath. Clarete continues to guess the answer while catching her breath. Later in the segment, Clarete becomes unresponsive and loses consciousness. At this point, the hosts and the crew help Clarete get her up while Allan K. criticizes himself before the show goes on to the commercial break.[1]

It was later revealed that Clarete has an anxiety attack which causes her to faint, and Eat Bulaga's crews and hosts later learned that Clarete has claustrophobia, which caused her anxiety to rise.[2]

Availability

The live footage of the fainting incident was aired in 2005 on GMA Network. However, the footage is partially found. The first partial video was uploaded on July 2nd, 2009 by YouTube user, aiza044, and it was the only known video to have the footage of the incident over the years. The typical "Pinoy Henyo" segment usually lasts for two minutes for every contestant, and the start of the partial footage is recorded at the remaining timeframe of 1:18. A YouTube user named 'Kapatid Archives' uploaded a second partial footage of the incident on January 14th, 2024.[3]

As of January 2024, the footage is still partially lost.
