The album's cover.

Status: Partially Found

Unsaid and Understood is a 2003 demo album by Jim Verraros. A year before the album's release, Verraros placed ninth on the first season of American Idol. He was the first openly gay contestant in the history of the series.

Although Verraros was known for singing ballads on American Idol, he pivoted after the series to recording pop rock and dance music. All of his albums were recorded in collaboration with music producer and singer-songwriter Gabe Lopez.

Unsaid and Understood was released exclusively through mp3.com, where multiple tracks from the album topped the Rock and Pop charts. The album received positive attention from LGBTQ media outlets and won the 2004 Out Music Award for Outstanding New Recording – Debut Male.[1][2][3]

After self-releasing Unsaid and Understood, Verraros signed with the indie label Koch Records in 2004. His official debut album, Rollercoaster, was then released through that label on April 26, 2005. Although several songs from Unsaid and Understood were included on Rollercoaster, the two albums are not identical.

Track Listing and Availability

Unsaid and Understood is no longer available for sale, and no official track listing for the album has been found. A few of the album's individual tracks however, have been identified.

Articles published by The Advocate in late 2003 confirm that the track listing for Unsaid and Understood included the songs "So Deep" and "I Want You,"[4][5] while a now-archived webpage for the Out Music Awards suggests that the album's track listing also included the songs "Ride Rough," "Hold On" and "Welcome to Hollywood."[6] All of these songs, with the exception of "Ride Rough," were later included on Rollercoaster.[7]

The official Jim Verraros website at one point had a page featuring the album cover for Unsaid and Understood, alongside various songs for free download. Because the number of songs included on that page varied over time, the official track listing for Unsaid and Understood is still not entirely clear.[8][9][10][11] Four songs included on that webpage were not included on Rollercoaster. These are "Ride Rough," "The Chase," "All I Am" and "All Night Long." All of these songs can still be heard on jimverraros.com using The Way Back Machine.[9] They are also now available on Youtube.

An archived fan page for Verraros contains a supposed track listing for Unsaid and Understood, but the accuracy of this track listing is unconfirmed. The track listing includes several songs that are no longer available anywhere. These are - "Downtown," "Unchanged," "Unsaid," "Everything I Have," "Without You," "You Could Be (Mmm)," "Lost in the Dark" and "Unchanged (acoustic version)."[12]

"Unsaid" and "You Could Be (Mmm)" are both mentioned in a 2006 blog post about Unsaid and Understood, but a comment on that page says that neither song was actually on the album.[13]

It's possible that all of the songs from Unsaid and Understood may be currently available. But in the absence of an official track listing, this can't by confirmed.
