Don't Believe The Truth was the fifth album recorded by the British rock band Oasis that was released on May 30th, 2005. The album was a critical and commercial success and was seen as a return to form for the band after the reception that their previous three albums "Be Here Now", "Standing on the Shoulder of Giants" and "Heathen Chemistry" got and after their set at Glastonbury the previous year was panned by critics and fans. The album that was released was produced by Dave Sardy (who would later produce the band's final album "Dig Out Your Soul" and Noel Gallagher's debut solo album "Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds"), though Sardy wasn't the first choice to produce the album.

History

Originally, the electronic music group Death In Vegas were hired to produce the album in December 2003^[1], after lead singer Liam Gallagher did guest vocals for the duo's song "Scorpio Rising" for the duo's album of the same name^[2] (to date is the duo's most successful song) and was impressed on the duo's producing of the track. Production on the album began after drummer Alan White was fired in January 2004 at Sawmills Studios in Cornwall and lasted three weeks. 10 songs are known to have been recorded during those three weeks^[3] and among those known are "Turn Up The Sun", "Mucky Fingers", "The Meaning Of Soul", "A Bell Will Ring", "Love Like a Bomb" and "Eyeball Tickler". However, Noel was satisfied with what was recorded^[4] saying that six of the songs were "not even good enough to make the b-sides" and due to the duo's commitment to the album "Satan's Circus" and the launch of their label Drone Records, they were fired as producers in March 2004. After performing at the Poole Lighthouse and Glastonbury, the band regrouped in July 2004 to re-record the album with Noel producing^[5] before eventually hiring Sardy to produce the album and the album met it's May 2005 release date after numerous delays.

Availability

In May 2008, five of the tracks recorded from the Death In Vegas sessions (Turn up the Sun, The Meaning Of Soul, Love Like a Bomb, Eyeball Tickler and A Bell Will Ring) were leaked on YouTube. Mucky Fingers and the other four unnamed tracks recorded during the Death In Vegas sessions have yet to resurface.
