Jake's Cyber Adventure is a 2007 educational film created by a group of 14 Boston Public Schools students trained to become "cyber safety mentors" who all wrote, filmed, and performed the film. The film educated on internet safety and was produced as part of Boston Public Schools's Cyber Safety Campaign which started in the summer of 2007.

Plot

A young boy named Jake must stay safe online. To help with safety, the Cybersafety Heroes help Jake to navigate the Internet and use his computer safely in order avoid the dangers of Dr. V. Throughout this, Jake learns a lot of lessons on cyber safety.

Production and Release

14 Boston Public Schools high school students, collectively referred to as "cyber safety mentors", worked and performed in the movie while creating cyber safety materials for schools, with Eric Esteves from TechBoston Academy helping them out. Haruna Tada created the costumes.

The film premiered in December 2007, right before holiday break, and the premiere was attended by the school committee, representatives from the District Attorney’s office, Attorney General’s office, Mayor’s office, Symantec Corporation, Microsoft, and the Boston Public Library. As of January 2008, the movie received favorable reviews.

Jake's Cyber Adventure would later be shown on June 17, 2008 at the Fifield School and on March 6, 2009 at the Martin Luther King Middle School. Copies were scheduled to be available to schools in April 2008 as part of Internet safety month.

Availability

Despite premiering in some schools after its release, there is almost no other information about Jake's Cyber Adventure other than on the BPS Cyber Safety Campaign blog and the film has not been posted online. It is unknown if the film has been shown at other times, or whether Boston Public Schools still has copies intended for their schools.
