Six matches held as part of sporting events aimed to improve Turkish-Soviet relations, the available newspaper reports indicate some ended with tons of controversy. Tensions reached a peak when Alexander Shchelchkov was the referee! The matches were the first overseas to be covered live by Soviet radio, courtesy of Vadim Sinyavsky.
