Transformers is a 2007 science fiction action film based on the Hasbro toy line of the same name. The film is the first installment in the live-action Transformers film series. While the original cut was released worldwide in June and July of 2007 an extended IMAX cut, which featured 2 minutes of extra footage,[1] was also released to theatres on September 21, 2007.[2] Before this cut was released, the film's director, Michael Bay, promised he would never release any of the material featured in this cut on home media, and keeping to his word, none of it has even over a decade later.[1]
Known Differences
- The CGI throughout the movie appears better due to the film being digitally upscaled to 70mm.[3]
- Sam is shown picking up Miles at his home before departing for the lake party. Sam's choice of car is then criticized by Miles.[3]
- Sam gets handed an anti-drug bumper sticker and is shown the "This is Your Brain on Drugs" PSA after the sheriff has him in for questioning at the police station. A behind-the-scenes look at a part of the scene can be seen on the film's Special Features DVD.[3]
- After kidnapping Sam and Mikaela, Agent Simmons interrogates Sam in the truck while he uses a device to monitor Sam's pupil dilation. Simmons also eyes Mikaela a little bit longer compared to the original cut and remarks that he "Understands the attraction, I've been down that path myself".[3]
- Upon arriving at Hoover Dam, Simmons asks Captain Lennox "Ever heard of Area 51?" Lennox responds "Yeah." "This is Area 50" Simmons replies. A few minutes later, he gives a long speech about all the U.S. Presidents who've toured and facility and gives his nicknames for each of them.[3]
- In Mission City, Lennox has to heckle with the owner of Rhonda's Pawn Loan Center to acquire short-range radios from her store. A version of the scene is included in the Transformers: Official Movie Adaptation comic book.[3]
