Disney Game Downloads was an online computer game download service operated by Disney Online from 2005 to 2008. It featured downloadable casual computer games starring Disney characters, all of which have now been found.
History
All of Disney Game Downloads' games featured Disney characters, and were priced in the $9.95 to $19.95 range[1][2]. Free trials of the games were offered.
Additionally, there was an extension of the Disney Game Downloads service called Disney's Game Café. Disney's Game Café offered casual game titles in a similar fashion to GameHouse, RealArcade, and Big Fish Games. It featured games such as Diner Dash, Polar Bowler, Feeding Frenzy 2, Granny in Paradise and Bejeweled 2[3]. Both DGD and DGC had a newsletter [4]. Disney Game Downloads also had a UK website[5] via Trymedia[6], which offered two bonus downloadable games, Disney's ToyTopia and Disney's Mini Golf. These games were also distributed to European and Australian markets through Macrovision's games network.[7][8]
The Disney Game Downloads website went offline in mid-2008.
Availability
After Disney Game Downloads went offline, the games from the service could be purchased via Gamesrocket, but Gamesrocket currently lists the games as sold out[9]. The games are no longer available via Yahoo Games, iWin[10], CNET[11] or BoontyGames[12].
Order of Findings
- Aladdin Magic Carpet Racing was found on hellopcgames.net[13].
- Aladdin Pinball[14], Disney's Trivia Time[15], Kim Possible: Legend of the Monkey's Eye, and Pirates of the Caribbean Pinball[16] were found on LegendsWorld.
- Disney Cuties Crazy Daze[17] and Stitch's Blazing Lasers[18] were found on xz7.com.
- Disney Princess Castle Party[19] and Disney's Disoku Apprentice[20] were found on Smallgames.
- Disney's Disoku Master was found on Kidsdown [21].
- The BoontyGames installers for Disney's ToyTopia[22] and Mermaid Pinball[23] were uploaded to Archive.org by user ComradeNapCal.
- In April 2021, TOMYSSHADOW removed the trial limitations for the games Disney's ToyTopia and The Little Mermaid Pinball. The games may be downloaded via TOMYSSHADOW's MEGA folder.
- The Lion King Grubalicious was found via eMule.
- Little Mermaid Bubble Blast[24] was found on GameNext via the Wayback Machine.
- Disney's Mini Golf was found in Spanish by LMW user raemond on the forum Los Juegos Del Magico Nico[25]. The Spanish game included a text file with the English translations. Critically, the Editor's translation needed to be recreated, so although the game was playable, it was still technically partially lost. Then, on September 22, 2023, LMW Discord user March provided a download for Disney's Mini Golf in English from their old hard drive.
- Pirates of the Carribean: Call of the Kraken was found by LMW Discord user thetruefrogman, who got it from a friend that had it on their computer. TOMYSSHADOW removed the online connection requirement.
