I managed to get my hands on the copy of this holy grail of IRL/IndyCar broadcast.
Although it's barely watchable because of the low quality, and it's only 11 minutes, I firmly believe these are the missing 68 laps. The west coast version was littered with commercials, those have been cut.
The broadcast ends seconds after Richie Hearn crosses the finish line, scoring his one and only IndyCar win.
I'm quite hopeful about this discovery, because I believe it will lead to and eventual upload of the full, and better quality version of this race, by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Racing Museum.
As a lifelong Indy racing fan, I know it's still a huge taboo to mention the series and Las Vegas Motor Speedway in any way shape or form together, because of the loss of Dan Wheldon, but please IMS Racing Museum, do the right thing. 🙂
