Shantae is a video game for the Nintendo Game Boy Color, released in 2002. It received very positive critical reception but sold very poorly due to being released so late in the Game Boy Color's lifespan, with the Game Boy Advance already having been available for over a year. Despite this, it received a sequel in 2010, one in 2014, and another in 2016. The original game has also been re-released on the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console service.

However, due to various issues, mostly having to do with finding a publisher, there were several other Shantae projects being developed during the character's 8-year hiatus that were never completed. One of them is Shantae TV, which is a plug-n-play TV game port of Shantae 2: Risky Revolution/Shantae Advance, a Game Boy Advance sequel which was also unfinished. Shantae TV was shown at the 2003 Toy Fair, running on SunPlus technology. Due to television screens being taller than Game Boy Advance screens, it has more vertical screen space.[1]

Shantae Advance is known to still exist, as a playthrough of its playable demo was streamed on Twitch.tv on October 3rd, 2014, but Shantae TV has not been seen since the 2003 Toy Fair.

On February 24th, 2024, a build of Shantae TV was found and uploaded to the Internet Archive by DevEd2. However, the game cannot be emulated at this time.
