On August 1, 2012, SHAFT announced a new anime project with the codename ''Prism Nana Project'' on their official website.  On August 10 at Comic Market 82, SHAFT would fully reveal it as ''Magical Suite Prism Nana'', an anime revolving around three adolescent girls in a near-future setting.  They would upload the trailer shown at Comic Market 82 on YouTube four days later on August 14.  Between September 30, 2012, and April 23, 2013, SHAFT would upload pilot previews for all seven planned episodes on YouTube.
