Oraa Guzura dado (おらぁグズラだど Hey, I'm Guzura!) is a 1967 black and white anime series directed by Hiroshi Sasagawa and produced by Tatsunoko Productions. It also had a manga adaptation and some Sonosheets. In 1987, the series was remade in color.

1967 anime

The original series aired from October 7th, 1967, till September 25th, 1968, and was composed of 88 segments (103 episodes). It was the last black and white anime produced by Tatsunoko Production. The series had a very low budget and often had to reuse frames, it is speculated that the series was made to cash in on the gag anime boom that started with “Q-Taro the Ghost.” The series wasn't very successful, and there were only a few toys and merchandise produced. In 1971, the series has been released in Brazil under the name "Guzula",^[1] where it has achieved a greater success than it has in Japan, but still wasn't as successful as other series like Perman. Two Brazilian dubs have been made, one Cinecastro and the other made by ACI-SP.

Status

The series is considered partially lost. Tatsunoko Productions have all the episodes, but has never re-aired on TV or shared online. Some episodes are available on DVD but are not known to be available on the internet. Most episodes of this series were only found via the 1971 Brazilian dub, which has been partially uploaded to YouTube. A Japanese YouTuber mashi has posted the first episode of the 1967 series dubbed in Japanese (which he had uploaded before but deleted) making it the only episode of the series with an available Japanese dub.

The manga was launched first as Onboro Kaijū Kuzura (オンボロ怪獣クズラ Wacky Monster Kuzura) on March 13th, 1966 in the Weekly Shōnen Sunday magazine, the first chapters with that name had different character designs, then after some chapters the designs were changed and the name of the manga was changed to Oraa Guzura Dado. Volumes and re-releases of the manga are available to buy in amazon and some Japanese sites despite that no re-releases of the original "Onboro Kaijū Kuzura" manga exist. Different users usually post photos of the manga^[2] but never released the original chapters in any way. Chapters of the manga that were serialized on magazines apart from Weekly Shōnen Sunday were not re-released.

1987 Anime

This series has aired between October 12th, 1987, and September 20th, 1988, and was composed of 88 segments (44 episodes; 2 segments per episode). This was a color remake of the original series. Most of the scenes were fully redrawn, however they were often drawn over the original frames. This series was dubbed in various languages, including Arabic, Italian (1 episode found), French (only a clip found) and Hindi.

Status

Majority of dubs are lost. The original Japanese dub was considered lost until around April 2020, when the series has been legally released on Amazon in Japan^[3]. Almost every episode is available on the internet dubbed in Arabic^[4], with the exception of episodes 33 and 36 which weren't included by the Arabic dub, likely because of their content, since one of the segments in those episodes "Guzura and Lucifer!" is said to be about Guzura dying and, going to hell. Some people, back when the episode has aired, mistook that as the final episode.
