Primos is an animated series on Disney Channel created by Natasha Kline, that debuted on July 25th 2024. It follows Tater Ramirez Humphrey, as she tries to achieve her summer plans whilst all 12 of her cousins are visiting for the season. It was originally slated for a January 2024 premiere, before being delayed.
On June 13th 2023, the official Disney Channel YouTube account uploaded the theme song as a sneak preview[1]... and it got slammed hard. Based solely on the intro at the time, critical reception labeled it as things like "problematic", "racist", and "a ripoff of The Loud House". Two of the hard-hitting points of critique came in the name of Tater's home town and one of the titular primos (Terremoto Heights and Cookita, respectively); The former for Mexico being known for having some bad earthquakes in its time, and the latter for being easily misinterpreted as "Cuquita", a Spanish word for a female's private area.
Because of the harsh outcry, the original upload of the theme song was eventually privated, and the series was delayed twice; The first time to change Cookita's name to Lucita, which pushed the series to a June 5th date, and a second time to replace Terremoto Heights with Hacienda Hills, when the July 25th date was set in stone. Yet, both initial name were still hanging around during early production of the first season, with even some episodes being completed with either original names in use. Said theme song is to date the only officially released content from the series' original iteration (except for a few screenshots), although full episodes of these pre-Hacienda versions have managed to leak online overtime. These versions are dubbed by fans as "The Cookita Cut" and "The Lucita Cut", respectively.[2]
