On August 11th, 2021, Syncopy Inc., Christopher Nolan's production company, took notice of a YouTube upload and copyright struck it. On August 16th, 2021, it was also taken down from Vimeo (the official Image Union episode upload) and archive.org, both also by Syncopy on behalf of Christopher Nolan. Tarantella is the debut short film of director Christopher Nolan. He produced it alongside filmmaker Roko Belic sometime between 1989 and 1990. Nolan and Belic, on top of producing the film, also star in it.

Tarantella aired only once, on episode 1313 of Image Union on September 12th, 1990. Image Union was a television series created by Tom Weinberg that aired on Chicago's PBS station WTTW. It showcased independent films created by artists, activists, and community groups.

Tom Weinberg, the creator of Image Union, founded the Media Burn Independent Video Archive (mediaburn.org) in 2003.[1] On this website, over 8000 videos are featured, including over 150 episodes of Image Union. However, episode 1313 was not originally included in this collection.

In March of 2021, Henry Adams began a personal lost media hunt for Tarantella. He emailed Tom Weinberg, who connected him with Jamie Ceaser, the producer of Image Union at the time that Tarantella aired. Ceaser contacted the WTTW librarian to try and find the episode in the archives. On April 21st, 2021, Adams received an email stating that the WTTW librarian had found the film. In May, the episode was digitized and eventually sent to Media Burn. On July 12th, 2021, Media Burn uploaded episode 1313 of Image Union to Vimeo.[2] Due to a lack in communication, it wasn't until July 17th, 2021 that Henry Adams discovered it had been uploaded.

The archive.org upload was only ever linked on this page, so someone from Nolan's team likely was lurking on the Lost Media Wiki. Several mirrors still exist on the internet, mostly on non-English websites.
