The group consisted of Cheeky Star (Dianne Regan), Dream Star (Jodie Crombie Brown), Angel Star (Lyndal Vincent) and Smiley Star (Michelle Irsak). They were sometimes joined by Regan's daughter, Jasmine Regan who went by "Twinkle Star". The band wrote two CDs between 2002 and 2005, with the former being nominated for the ARIA Award for Best Children's Album in 2002.

In 2007, Nicktoons Network signed a deal with Big Tent Entertainment to create thirteen music videos for Star Girls songs, running for two minutes animated by Copernicus Studios.[1]
