Perman is a manga series that ran from 1966-1986 and was authored by Fujiko Fujio (though new chapters were not published from 1968-1983 and Fujiko F. Fujio was the only author from 1983) and was subsequently adapted into animation twice, in 1967 and 1983. It focuses on four (five before 1983) children who are one day chosen by Birdman (Superman before 1983) to be fighters of justice. The 1983 version is the more well-known of the two adaptions, being more widely available, longer and it being dubbed into far more languages, while the first adaption is only known to be dubbed into Latin American Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.

Opening title of the 1967 Perman

Status: Partially Lost

Perman is a manga series that ran from 1966-1986 and was authored by Fujiko Fujio (though new chapters were not published from 1968-1983 and Fujiko F. Fujio was the only author from 1983) and was subsequently adapted into animation twice, in 1967 and 1983. It focuses on four (five before 1983) children who are one day chosen by a hero named Birdman (hero was named Superman before 1983) to be fighters of justice. The 1983 version is the more well-known of the two adaptions, being more widely available, longer, recent, and it being dubbed into far more languages, while the first adaption is only known to be dubbed into Latin American Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.

Availability

After the series ceased airing and prior to 2014, virtually the entirety of the 1967 adaption was unavailable to view as it stopped airing before most home recording technology came to existence, with only very rare rebroadcasts of episodes during the 1990s and one of the versions opening and ending credits being available online.

In 2014, the majority of the series was re-released to celebrate the 50th anniversary of TMS Entertainment after being restored over the course of 2 years for DVD.[1] This, however, excluded four segments audio and two segments entirely leading to them both still being lost in their original Japanese versions, while two others are still damaged after their restoration.

In 2024, audio was found for "Perman's Counterattack" and subsequently added to the following Blu-ray release.[2]

The two lost segments in Japanese however, are available in their foreign dub versions though heavily damaged.
