| "Friends in Low places" was composed by Bud Lee and Dewayne Blackwell in 1989. The initial line, "I got friends in low places," came from a statement made by Bud while reassuring friends that he could afford the check resulting from their meal at an eatery. Lee and Dewayne were captivated by the line and conceptualize basing a song upon it. The song was conceived during their attendance of a songwriter's party months afterwards.
