Disney Game Downloads was an online PC game service ran by Disney Online from 2005 to 2008. It featured downloadable PC casual games starring Disney characters, some of which are currently lost.
History
Made to compete with Nickelodeon's NickArcade game service and Cartoon Network's PowerPlay Games service, all of Disney Game Downloads' games featured Disney characters, and were sold for around $9.99[1] to $19.99[2], with free trials of the games offered.
In addition, Disney Game Downloads also had a sister game service called Disney's Game Café; Unlike DGD, Disney's Game Café was meant to compete with casual game sites like GameHouse, RealArcade, and Big Fish Games, and featured games like Diner Dash, Polar Bowler, Feeding Frenzy 2, Granny in Paradise and Bejeweled 2[3]. Both DGD and DGC had a newsletter of which people could subscribe to[4]. Disney Game Downloads also had a site in the UK[5] powered by Trymedia[6], which also had a bonus downloadable game, Disney's ToyTopia.
Both sites were closed down in mid-2008, presumably due to not making enough money for Disney.
Availability of Games
After Disney Game Downloads shut down, most of the games on the service could be found for sale on Gamesrocket, but as of recently, Gamesrocket has stopped selling the games[7]. Some games could also be found on Yahoo Games and Boonty.
As of now, only 10 games from the service have been found, with one game partially found: Aladdin Magic Carpet Racing was found on hellopcgames.net[8], Disney's Disoku Apprentice was found on small games.ws[9], Kim Possible: Legend of the Monkey's Eye, Disney's Trivia Time[10], and both Aladdin Pinball[11] and Pirates of the Caribbean Pinball[12] were all found on LegendsWorld, Stitch's Blazing Lasers[13], Disney Cuties Crazy Daze[14] and a demo of The Little Mermaid Bubble Blast[15] were found on xz7.com, working installers for free trials of The Little Mermaid Pinball[16] and Disney's ToyTopia[17] were found by Archive.org user ComradeNapCal and a working installer for a free trial of The Little Mermaid Bubble Blast was found on Softoware[18].
