Kamen Rider or Masked Rider is a long-running franchise of live action tokusatsu television programs and films created by manga artist Shotaro Ishinomori. The Kamen Rider franchise mainly consists of motor-cycle riding masked superheroes/cyborgs, mainly with an insect motif, who fight a large variety of supervillains. The franchise is considered one of the most beloved icons in children's entertainment in Japan and has made several attempts to establish itself globally.
In 1995, Saban produced an American adaptation of Kamen Rider Black RX and dubbed it Masked Rider. The show incorporated many elements from previous Saban tokusatsu adaptation, such as Power Rangers, VR Troopers, and Big Bad Beetleborgs. This adaptation, however, would not be the last. In 2009, Adness Entertainment produced an American adaptation of Kamen Rider Ryuki and dubbed it under the title Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight. They broadcast it on the CW4Kids Channel.
Since these adoptions, America has never seen another attempt to bring the popular franchise to American television; however, that hasn't stopped other English speaking countries from doing so themselves. To that note, there are many Asian-English dubs of multiple Kamen Rider series; such as the original Kamen Rider, Kamen Rider X,[1] Kamen Rider OOO,[2] Kamen Rider Kabuto, Kamen Rider Ryuki,[3] Kamen Rider Wizard, Kamen Rider Fourze, Kamen Rider Decade, etc. Dubs specifically created by Speedy Video, officially known as Masked Rider Kuuga, Masked Rider Agito The Movie: Project G4, and Masked Rider Ryuki: Episode Final, had official DVD releases that do not seem to still be in production. The most common countries brought up in producing these dubs have been the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Singapore; which are still being dubbed in English today.
