In 1988, rap duo Will Smith & DJ Jazzy Jeff released a track titled "Nightmare On My Street" based off of the classic horror film "A Nightmare on Elm Street". The song was released on vinyl and compact cassette, the video made a couple showings on MTV but was sued for copyright.
The Song
Being recorded in 1987 and released on August 1st, 1988 "Nightmare On My Street" was Will Smith & DJ Jazzy Jeff's third single. Being a smash hit and reaching #15 on the Hot 100, released on vinyl record and cassette tape. The song was considered for the fourth film of the Nightmare on Elm Street series but was later decided a no go.
