So I was a bit of an amateur last post, speculating on what Rik's role as Peeves was like when it's actually been entirely explained by director Chris Columbus (who's favourite character was, ironically, Peeves):

"We needed to cut something because the film was close to three hours, [Peeves] was going to be a completely CGI character and that saved us a considerable amount of money, but also created a considerable amount of heartbreak. The footage exists so there’s the potential that someday we could put it back together if people really were that interested." - Chris Columbus, 2016 (https://ew.com/article/2016/10/12/harry-potter-sorcerers-stone-chris-columbus-interview-binge/)

So, yeah, the footage is indeed in the Warner Bros. vault collecting dust. You'd think Columbus or Warner Bros. would take a hint, like come on just release the footage, no need to spice it up with added-effects.
