Cartoon Orbit (partially found defunct online game; 2000-2006)
Cartoon Orbit was an online trading card system hosted on the Cartoon Network website from October 2000 to October 16, 2006. The idea for the game was created by the former vice president of Cartoon Network, Sam Register.
Details
Cartoon Orbit's main focus was the trading card system for users of the service to trade "cToons." cToons were sticker like stills or animated gifs from different Cartoon Network properties at the time. Users would be able to put these in their own rooms called "cZones." Some cZones created by users would be put on spotlight as well.
There were special cToons as well as the normal ones, ones for Holidays (Christmas, Halloween, etc.). Some cToons were obtainable from special codes given during the broadcast of Cartoon Cartoon Fridays, a block that ran from April 30, 1999 to February 23, 2007.[1][2]
Later in 2002, "gToons" were added, which were head to head strategy games.
Closure
In the beginning of 2005, Cartoon Orbit began to become less and less under maintenance, causing it to suffer greatly in accessibility and little to no updates were made.
Cartoon Orbit was shutdown on October 16, 2006. The users were left with a certificate as a thank you for their support of the game.
