Star Blazers 2199, known in Japan as Space Battleship Yamato 2199, is a 26-episode anime remake of the 1974-1975 Space Battleship Yamato (known internationally as Star Blazers) anime series by Voyager Entertainment and Production I.G. 2199 originally debuted as a series of seven theatrical releases, screened in Japan between April 2012 and August 2013. The films were later aired in their episode format on MBS between April and September 2013.

The first two episodes were adapted into an English language pilot by Bang Zoom Entertainment for Voyager Entertainment and Production I.G. to pitch to interested parties. It was screened publicly at Japan Expo 2013, Anime Expo 2013 and later at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con.[1][2][3] Johnny Young Bosch played the role of Kodai. The titular ship Yamato was renamed Argo to retain consistency with the original series' dub and avoid controversy in markets where the real-life Yamato battleship brings up negative connotations. The series was pitched for broadcast in the United States on Toonami, but the deal ultimately fell through.[4]

The series eventually received a partial North American DVD/Blu-Ray release courtesy of Voyager in 2014. While an English dub was considered for the home video launch, the final product was released exclusively in Japanese with English subtitles.[5] In 2017, Funimation Entertainment licensed the series and produced an English dub with an entirely separate cast of voice actors.[6]

The English pilot has never been officially released on home video and no clips exist online.
