Under One Roof (partially found MyNetworkTV sitcom; 2008)
Under One Roof is a 2008 sitcom starring Public Enemy member Flavor Flav that aired from 2008 to 2009 on MyNetworkTV. The series, MyNetworkTV's first and so far only original sitcom, ran for one season of 13 episodes. [1]
The series stars Flav as Calvster Hill, an ex-con who after being released from prison moves in with his wealthy brother Winston, who is the complete opposite of him. Calvster's rambunctious personality and lifestyle often clashes with the more conservative personalities of the rest of the family.[2]
The series was lambasted by critics, receiving a 1.7 out of 10 on IMDB[3], as well as scathing reviews from outlets such as the Los Angeles Times, where critic Mary McNamara described watching the show as being "difficult to do much except watch, wide-eyed with disbelief," The series was also criticized for featuring what was viewed as offensive stereotypes about various ethnic and socioeconomic groups. [4] Common Sense Media also criticized the show, saying that it "relies heavily on negative cultural representations to get laughs," and is "just not very funny".[5]
Perhaps due to the negative reception, the series would cease airing new episodes following the premiere of the tenth episode, officially confirming the show would air reruns until November 5 on September 6, 2008, [6], but the remaining 2 episode of the series would not air until January 2009, as the show itself was removed from the schedule on that day. [7] Again possibly due to the negative reception, as well as low ratings the network in general received, the show, and the vast majority of all original programming on MyNetworkTV was cancelled for the 2009-10 season.[8]
Availability
The show has never been officially released in any format outside of a few short clips, and no full episodes have been uploaded online, with the closest being a truncated version of the episode "Get Rich...or Fry Tryin" uploaded by the production company C to the B Productions.[9]. Various clips from other episodes have been uploaded, but without enough information to determine which episodes they came from.[10] [11]
