Trans Am Racing 1968-72 is a historic racing game developed by EAI Interactive for the PC and was originally intended to be released in 1998 before being delayed to 1999, and then being cancelled for unknown reasons.

Premise

As the title suggests, Trans Am Racing 1968-72 would’ve taken place within the 1968-1972 Trans Am seasons, often regarded as the golden era of Trans Am racing, a racing series ran by the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) that was notable for its usage of V8 powered American muscle cars.
Several teams from the era the game takes place in would be present in the release, including big teams like Penske, Ford, Dodge, and Chapparal. Players would also have the option to create their own team for events.

Gameplay

The game was advertised as an ultra realistic racing simulator, and was considered to be extremely innovative for its time. It included a real time rendered damage mechanic [1] and an online mode with races that could go as long as 48 hours (due to the lack of nighttime, there would be no rolling time mechanic for these events).

Real life drivers featured in the game had their own unique AI specifically designed to drive the same way as their real life counterparts. Drivers that were known to be aggressive would be more prone to shoving and bumping the players car during a race.

Availability

The first and only time people got a chance to play the game was at E3 1998, where a playable demo was present.

Despite various clips and screenshots coming out regarding the gameplay, a playable build has not been released to the public.

The game engine would be reused for the Playstation 1 game, The Dukes Of Hazzard: Racing For Home, which was released to mostly mediocre reception.
