Donkey Kong 3: Dai Gyakushū (テグザー, Teguzā) is a fixed shooter video game by Hudson Soft which released only in Japan in 1984 on the NEC PC-8801, Sharp X1, NEC PC-6601 and IBM JX. A port of the game on the FM-7 was also advertised, but never released.[1]

Description

Donkey Kong 3: Dai Gyakushū, which roughly translated to Donkey Kong 3: The Great Counterattack is a sequel to the arcade game Donkey Kong 3. The objective to shoot Donkey Kong up in the air remains, but this version features 20 new outdoor backgrounds. After the player has completed the 20th stage, the game loops back at stage 21. Every five stages there's a Bonus Stage, where Stanley must spray all the bugs before the time runs out. Also, Stanley the Bugman can only move from left to right and his ability to jump has been removed, along with the need to protect plants.[2]

Ports

Hudson Soft would release the game on the NEC PC-8801, Sharp X1 and NEC PC-6601 in October 1984. Another port would release on the IBM JX in 1984.[3] Currently, only footage of the NEC PC-8801, Sharp X1 and NEC PC-6601 versions exist, and only the PC-88 and X1 versions are dumped online. It's unknown if the FM-7 version ever started development and no prototype build has ever surfaced.
