A Dog's Life (partially found NBC sitcom pilot; 1979)
A Dog's Life (alternate title: McGurk: A Dog's Life) is an unsold sitcom pilot for NBC that aired once on June 15th, 1979.[1] The pilot features Barney Martin (McGurk), Beej Johnson (Iris), Charles Martin Smith (Tucker) and Sherry Lynn (Camille) all portrayed as dog that discuss different social matters from a family dogs point of view.
Synopsis
The pilots about McGurk who worries that he would be put down after overhearing his owner saying "It's curtains for McGurk." He then finds out the owner was getting him new curtains for his dog house. The pilot also features Tucker a young male pup that the owner adopts, McGurk's love interest a female dog name Iris and her pup name Camille.
Status
The pilot was rejected by the network likely due to the overwhelmingly negative reception of it. The pilot was never aired again after its initial airing and it wasn’t until 2004 when footage of it resurfaced on The Best TV Shows That Never Were, an ABC special that shows some of the worst rejected TV pilots ever pitch to a TV network.
In 2011, Comedian Kevin Levine posted the full pilot onto his blog and also commenting on how bad it was. The video was eventually taken down for unknown reasons.[2] As of 2024, the pilot has yet to fully resurface online.
