After AB Groupe completed their alternate English dubs of ''Dragon Ball'', ''Dragon Ball Z'' and ''Dragon Ball GT'', the company began production on their own English versions of the various movies and TV specials in the franchise for the European television market. Unlike the TV series, which were produced by Ocean Productions and its sister studio Blue Water in Canada, these were dubbed in France with English speaking voice actors living in the country.

Unlike the TV series, which were produced by Ocean Productions and its sister studio Blue Water in Canada, these were dubbed in France with English-speaking voice actors living in the country.

The end product became infamous among the ''Dragon Ball'' fandom due to poor performances, awkwardly written scripts, bad translations and strange pronunciations of character names. For example, Krillin is named "Klirin" and the Saiyans are called "Space Warriors". The dub has colloquially been referred to as the "Big Green dub" due to it changing the name of Piccolo to "Big Green."

After AB Groupe completed their alternate English dubs of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT, the company began production on their own English versions of the various movies and TV specials in the franchise for the European television market. Unlike the TV series, which were produced by Ocean Productions and its sister studio Blue Water in Canada, these were dubbed in France with English-speaking voice actors living in the country.

Availability

As these dubs were primarily produced for TV broadcast, only a select handful was put out on home video. Dragon Ball Z movies 2-4 were released in the United Kingdom, but follow-up film releases were cancelled due to poor sales. The first nine Dragon Ball Z movies, plus the two Z TV specials, were released on DVD in the Netherlands by Bridge Entertainment.

The first three Dragon Ball movies, as well as the GT TV special, were dubbed by the company and aired on Toonami in the UK in 2005 but have no known home video release. It is suspected, but not confirmed, that AB Groupe had produced English dubs for the (then) remaining four Dragon Ball Z features.

Title changes and releases

Dragon Ball Z

AB Groupe's English dubs of the Dragon Ball Z films/specials were labelled out of order on DVD and VHS in the Netherlands. The Dutch releases of the dub occurred between 2001 and 2005.[1][2][3] Some of the titles were changed, but most were based on Toei's original English titles for each movie.[4]

  1. Super Battle in the World (1990, AB Groupe version released in 2001)
  2. The Strongest Guy in the World (1990, AB Groupe version released in 2001)
  3. Super Saiyan, Goku (1991, AB Groupe version released in 2001)
  4. Super Rivals (1991, AB Groupe version released in 2001)
  5. Fight! 10 Billion Power Warriors (1992, AB Groupe version released in 2001)
  6. Super Battle of the Three Super Saiyans (1992, AB Groupe version released in 2001)
  7. The Burning Battles (1991, AB Groupe version released in 2002)
  8. Super Guy in the Galaxy (1993, AB Groupe version released in 2002)
  9. The Father of Goku (1991, AB Groupe version released in 2003)
  10. Gohan and Trunks (1993, AB Groupe version released in 2003)
  11. In Pursuit of Garlic (1989, AB Groupe version released in 2003)

Dragon Ball

AB Groupe's English dub of the Dragon Ball movies has never been released on home video, and only ever aired on Toonami UK.

  1. The Legend of Shenron (1986, AB Groupe version aired in 2005)
  2. Sleeping Beauty in Devil Castle (1987, AB Groupe aired released in 2005)
  3. The Great Mystical Adventure (1988, AB Groupe version aired in 2005)

Dragon Ball GT

AB Groupe's English dub of the Dragon Ball GT special has never been released on home video, and only ever aired on Toonami UK.

  1. Four-Star Dragonball is the Proof of Courage (1997, AB Groupe version aired in 2005)
