Status: Lost
The World's Biggest Treasure Hunt was a 2007 web game and promotional contest launched alongside Walt Disney Pictures' National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets, and presented by Mercedes-Benz. The webpage was once hosted on http://www.nationaltreasure.com, but now just redirects to the "Movies" page on the offical Disney website.[1]
In the game, players were "able to drive the Mercedes C-Class in car chases and scavenger hunts or use its Mercedes-branded navigation system to play a puzzle game in virtual replicas of London and New York," according to The Hollywood Reporter.[2]
The promotion featured a partnership with Odyssey Marine Exploration, where players could pilot its Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV) Zues, to find lost treasure aboard the Confederate vessel, the USS Republic.[3]
Real treasure excavated from the Civil War-era ship were promised to contest winners, with the grand prize winner receiving a 2008 Mercedes-Benz C-Class filled with the treasure of the USS Republic. The game is now no longer available to the public, and is currently unplayable.
