"90s Ideas" is the conjectural title of a series of demos made by American singer-songwriter Ariana Grande. From August 2021 to June 2022, being a collaboration with her longtime producer Max Martin. The songs were meant to be part of a "nineties group girl parody skit" for a TV Show. However, due to positive reactions to people who listened to the demos, several of the songs would later be reworked for her seventh studio album, Eternal Sunshine [1]. It's possible that as many as 7 demos exist; however, they remain mostly shrouded in mystery.
Production
Most of the information regarding the sessions comes from comments Ariana Grande made following the song "Fantasize" being leaked & reuploaded illegally on TikTok & Spotify [2], along with metadata of the leaks (which refer to Fantasize as "90s idea number 3") & a pre-album interview with Zach Sang.
Very little is known about the unleaked demos, they're existence only being confirmed by an off-hand mention by Grande of "saving some songs for Eternal Sunshine" during the Zach Sang interview and a verified leaker within the community saying that unknown demo 90s idea number 7 is "probably [the] best Ariana I ever heard.".
True Story remains the only 90s idea to be officially released, serving as the sixth track of "Eternal Sunshine" [3]. Fantasize was also used a basis for the song "The Boy is Mine," the eighth track on the album, however these two are completely separate songs [4].
Due to Grande's aforementioned comment about the "saving" song for Eternal Sunshine and the reworking of Fantasize and True Story, it's possible other album tracks or outtakes might've been part of these sessions, however, nothing has been confirmed thus far.
