Astro Boy: Mighty Atom - Visitor of 100,000 Light Years, IGZA (Astro Boy 鉄腕アトム 10万光年の来訪者・IGZA) is a 2005 anime film based on the Astro Boy (Mighty Atom) manga series created by Osamu Tezuka, specifically acting as a follow-up to the 2003 adaptation of the series, sharing the same animation style and production. The film was produced by Tezuka Productions with Sarai Inc. and directed by Hiroo Takeuchi.

According to the now-defunct Sarai website with information on the film, it had a length of about 40 minutes and was allegedly sponsored by the candy brand Meiji.[1]

The movie was Japan's first-ever fully animated theatrical film made for IMAX screens and was released around May 2005. The movie was never been made available to the public beyond these screenings in 2005, with no known home video releases, and it's unknown if it has been presented at other events.[2]

Plot

The plot follows Atom and his friends as they journey to Titan, Saturn's moon. Unbeknownst to the group, an ancient mechanical being named Igza waits for them below the moon's seas. Quoted from Osamu Tezuka's website:

"A special edition of ``ASTROBOY produced for large screen screening facilities. Japan's first fully animated large-scale video." "The interplanetary spacecraft Galileo II carries Atom and his friends and heads for Saturn's moon Titan. However, what awaited Atom and his friends when they arrived on Titan was an attack from someone. What appears there is a mechanical lifeform called ``Igza who attempts to destroy humans. The battle between Atom and Igza begins in the great universe..."[3]

The now-defunct Sarai website also had a plot summary, which roughly translated, goes as follows:

"The spaceship Galileo II carrying Atom and his friends. The destination is Saturn's moon Titan. A star surrounded by a thick atmosphere, just like Earth. ``There might be living creatures! The children's hearts flutter. However, when Atom and his friends arrive at Titan, they are attacked by someone. And beneath the surface of Titan, there is the shadow of a mysterious giant structure... There was a machine lifeform named Igza who had been waiting for the arrival of evolving robots for two million years."

"Igza destroyed humans on a distant planet. However, his body was infected with a virus. Atom's body was needed to cure it. Igza takes in Atom and tries to destroy the humans of Earth. Igza's purpose was to create a world filled only with robots, mechanical life forms. Atom desperately resists Igza and tries to protect humans. Dr. Ochanomizu, the beautiful girl Yuna, Uran, and other children support Atom. A story of friendship and adventure begins in the cosmos!"
