Hi Robin, are you thinking of Wild Thornberries Chopper Chase? That was a 3d Groove game of the same era (2002-2004) and it was involving saving African animals via driving a helicopter.

The Wildlife Rescue games (Both Go Wild and Africa Rescue) mentioned in the article above are 2D, point-and-click, first-person games where you pick up items in the wild to give to animals to rehabilitate them. I really, really hope they are found sometime. I mentioned in a comment above I have played the Aus version recently.
