The original post is significant for at least three reasons:

First, there is a dispute over whether SCP-173 predates the Weeping Angles. The Weeping Angels first appeared in a June 2007 Doctor Who episode it appeared around the same time as SCP-173 was posted. The original post would provide a definite answer to this controversy.

Second, the current text of SCP-173 is rumored to have been changed (the text of the 2008 4chan post has different text from the text on SCP-173’s Wikidot article). The original post would provide a definitive answer as to whether the text was altered.

Third (and perhaps most significantly) the post is an important piece of Internet history that a lot of people have asked for over the years. Its incredibly rare for something like the SCP Foundation (a creative writing website with about 5,000 entries and over a decade’s worth of history) to emerge from a one-off 4chan post, so finding the post would be of create cultural value.

I know that this is a niche piece of lost media. However, it can provide a lot of information that a repost cannot and is a lost media that a lot of people outside of the lost media community care about finding.
