Little confused as to what's actually lost here

The article states that the version on the Japan-only Gamecube compilation is almost identical to the N64 prototype found. In addition to physical releases, that Gamecube rom is pretty easily available, with an English translation. Is this article solely searching for the N64 files? Because otherwise this game isn't lost.
