Status: Lost

Corpse Party: NewChapter was a mobile remake of the PC-98 CORPSE-PARTY RPG Maker survival horror adventure game by Makoto Kedouin released in 1996. It was developed by Team GrisGris and released episodically between October 2006 to December 2007.

CORPSE-PARTY begins with a group of students telling each other scary stories after the cultural festival at school. Suddenly, they are sent to an abandoned, haunted school by the spirit of a deceased girl named Shinozaki and they must find a way to escape. NewChapter follows this basic premise, but reboots the story with additional characters and chapters, as well as enhanced visuals.

Five chapters were planned, but only four released. NewChapter was discontinued in favor of the enhanced PC port Corpse Party: BloodCovered released in March 2008. Though it was discontinued, NewChapter would serve as the basis of all further ports of Corpse Party, rather than the PC-98 version.

Releases and Availability

Each chapter was downloadable from Famitsu's free game service, alongside other free RPG Maker games. They were compatible with NTT docomo's 90x and 703i series.

The release dates are as follows:

  • Chapter 1: October 3, 2006
  • Chapter 2: December 12, 2006
  • Chapter 3: April 12, 2007
  • Chapter 4: December 26, 2007

On June 27th, 2007, chapters 1-3 received a text-related update.[1]

BloodCovereds first two chapters released in March 2008. No further chapters of the mobile version would be produced after that. It is unknown when the game's distribution ceased.

At Comiket 73 in 2007, a mini album was released containing music from the first two chapters of NewChapter and BloodCovered.[2] This is the only known available official release of NewChapter media.

Some gameplay footage of chapter 1's opening is available online, shown further below.

Differences from PC-98 Version

The PC-98 CORPSE-PARTY was a single chapter story and had multiple endings depending who had died during the game. NewChapter removes determinant character deaths and instead has several "Wrong Ends" alongside a "True End" for each chapter. Each following chapter follows the previous one's "True End."

The characters Satoshi Mochida, Ayumi Shinozaki, Yoshiki Kishinuma, Naomi Nakashima, and Yuka Mochida return for NewChapter, although with different character designs. The antagonist, Shinozaki, was only known by her surname throughout CORPSE-PARTY, she was given the name "Sachiko" for NewChapter.

The students' teacher, Yui Shishido, was added as a playable character in NewChapter.[3]

Known non-playable characters added:

  • Seiko Shinohara
  • Mayu Suzumoto
  • Sakutaro Morishige
  • Yuuya Kizami
  • Kou Kibiki
  • Naho Saenoki
  • Takamine Yanagihori
  • Yoshikazu Yanagihori
  • Ryou Yoshizawa
  • Tokiko Tsuji
  • Yuki Kanno

The last three characters were not listed on the game's website and are only seen in screenshots. The official website lists five additional characters marked only with question marks.[3]

These changes were retained in the BloodCovered PC port.

Differences from PC BloodCovered Port

BloodCovered is an enhanced port of NewChapter, and screenshots of NewChapter suggest that most story elements were retained. Character sprites also remained the same.

The new character "Sakutaro Morishige" lacked a dialog portrait in NewChapter. He was given one for BloodCovered. Many characters were given new portraits.

Maps and tiles in NewChapter were much smaller than in the PC version due to the small screen size.

The music in NewChapter was rearranged for BloodCovered. The mobile version also lacked any voice acting, which would be added in the PC version.
