Golden Kids is a 2011 anime series by Shirogumi based on Captain Tsubasa creator Yoichi Takahashi's novel series of the same name. The show revolves around a Japanese high school soccer club that has lost 22 straight games and the struggles its players go through trying to improve. Unusual for its time, the Golden Kids anime was distributed exclusively through an iOS app where users would pay $2.99/350 yen to unlock each episode. Alongside its native Japanese, the series also debuted with an English audio track and Spanish and Portuguese subtitles.[1] Only 2 episodes were released. It's presumed that more were in production.

The app has since been removed from the app store and all official social channels have been deleted. As the series never received a physical home video release, an official Youtube upload of the first episode in English is all that remains.[2] The second episode has been lost in its entirety, as have all non-English versions of the first.

The series was highlighted on the August 16th, 2011 episode of NHK World's imaginenation series. Interviews with the production staff were shared [3] The producer on the project said they had plans for 100 episodes, with it also being revealed that show host Isabelle Naomi Massabò-Shinjou voiced one of the characters in the English dub.
