The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade needs absolutely no introduction. Spanning an over 99-year history, the Parade has become a Thanksgiving tradition for millions of people around the United States, and indeed internationally. One reason for its wide appeal is its annual NBC broadcast, which is also aired around the globe. While most of the official broadcasts are available to watch online, some of their widescreen counterparts remain lost.

Availability

Since 2005, the NBC has broadcasted the parade in both widescreen and high-definition. Prior to this, the parade had only been broadcast in standard definition full-screen. While widescreen copies of every broadcast from 2007 onward have been found, the first two coverages broadcast in widescreen - 2005 and 2006 - remain lost, though several clips of both have shown up online, implying their existence in some capacity. The widescreen copy of 2007 was first uploaded by FraggleVisionReturns under her MajorLeaguePongGods account; however, the upload was "squished" from 16:9 into 4:3. In 2021, parade community member JuggleBuggle stretched the upload of the broadcast into its original dimensions, though they would only upload the balloons for storage reasons. They later uploaded the entire copy, edited to fit the original aspect ration dimensions.

On October 31^st, 2022, Larsenv uploaded the widescreen NBC broadcasts of the 2010 and 2011 parades in full, in addition to the CBS feeds for each from Usenet. Later, on December 22nd, 2022, Racelympics uploaded the 2008 NBC broadcast to Google Drive after finding it on Usenet again. It was later re-uploaded to the Internet Archive by LunarRocks. Four days later, Racelympics also uploaded the 2009 NBC broadcast to the Internet Archive, becoming the third of the broadcasts to be found in HD and widescreen.
