Poppy.Computer (partially lost unreleased songs from "Poppy" album; 2016-2017)
Poppy.Computer is the debut album by metal musician and YouTuber Poppy and the follow up to her debut EP Bubblebath. The recording sessions for the album took place from 2016 - 2017 and the album was released on October 6th, 2017.[1]
Themes
The album centers around the character of Poppy and includes satirical take on celebrities, YouTube, parasocial relationships and AI sentience that she expressed through her YouTube videos.
Background
Shortly after the conclusion of the Bubblebath tour on July 30th, 2016[2]. Poppy split from Island Records who she released her debut EP under. In 2019 with NME, she revealed she was in a bad record deal.[3] She got out of the deal by telling the executives she just wanted to create videos.[4]
On November 17th, 2016 she released her single "Adored"[5] that expressed the themes of wanting to be adored by fans. A month later, on December 17th, 2016 she was featured on a Beats 1 Noisy Radio broadcast where she revealed that she had gone to Japan to work on new music[6] and that it would be coming out in January 2017[7], this turned out to be her single "I'm Poppy" which was pushed back to a February 14th, 2017 release date.[8]
On May 19th, 2017, Computer Boy was released as the second single from Poppy.Computer.[9] As of June 2024, the music video for the song has 14 million views on YouTube and is the most popular single from the album [10]
On October 6th, 2017 Poppy.Computer would be released.[1]
