S.A.L.E.M. (short for the Secret Archive of Legends, Enchantments and Monsters) is an unreleased animated miniseries created by Sam Sawyer and produced by Lost Sock. Announced sometime in 2018 (although the characters have been around for quite some time), the series revolves around the adventures of an adopted cryptid, Salem (voiced by Laura Bailey), their guardian, the Boogeyman (voiced by Rob Paulsen) and their friends, Oliver (a wanna-be cryptid photographer; voiced by Adam McArthur) and Petra (a psychic medium terrified of ghosts; voiced by Riele Downs) as they set off on an enchanted book to find Salem's true self. [1] A total of 5 episodes were planned according to the Kickstarter and it is unknown if they're fully finished or not. [1]

Story

According to the series' Kickstarter campaign:

S.A.L.E.M. is an animated story filled with adventure, slice of life, self discovery, and pancakes. This story follows a young, bright-eyed cryptid named Salem, who lives with their guardian, the infamous Boogeyman. For years they'd prepared to 'take over the family business', only for their world to flip upside down when the truth is revealed.

Salem is...adopted!?

Wishing to discover their origin, Salem sets off with the aid of an enchanted book to discover their true self. Along the way, Salem is joined by the help of a wanna-be cryptid photographer named Oliver, and a psychic medium terrified of ghosts named Petra. With magical aid and plenty of energy drinks, the trio embark on a monster hunt.

Status

As of 2024, no further updates to the series are available and it's rather unlikely the series will be officially released in some capacity. The reason for this is the amount of legal troubles the series got. [2] What type of legal issues it is remains highly unknown. Animatics for what seems to be the first episode are viewable on one of the videos from the official S.A.L.E.M. YouTube channel, while stills from post-production and finished footage are viewable on the show's social accounts.
