State Anthem of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic (partially found original version of regional anthem; 1945)
The "State Anthem of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic" (Moldovan:" Имнул де Стат ал РСС Молдовенешть") was the regional anthem of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic from 1945 until it was rewritten in 1981 and officially relinquished in 1991.
History
The Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic (MSSR) was established in 1941 as a republic of the Soviet Union. In 1945, the State Anthem, which was composed by Ștefan Neaga and written by Emilian Bukov and Ivan Bodarev was adopted. The anthem followed the "typical Soviet structure" and consisted of three verses and three stanzas. The lyrics of the anthem contained references to the leader of the Soviet Union, Joseph Stalin.
In 1953, during De-Stalinization, there were plans to rewrite the lyrics to remove any reference of Stalin, but it was not done until 1980.[1] The anthem's lyrics were also relinquished in 1953 along with all other Soviet anthem lyrics during the Stalin era. The music was recomposed by Eduard Lazarev and new lyrics were written. The anthem was relinquished in 1991 with the dissolution of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic and was replaced with "Deșteaptă-te, române!" ("Awaken thee, Romanian!").
Lyrics and Music
The lyrics of the original version of the song was lost sometime after being relinquished. The original music was preserved but only in instrumental form. In 2012, the historical exhibit "13 Years of Stalinism" used a previously unknown vocal recording of the state anthem which contained the first two lines of the original version.[2] The original lyrics were found in 2016 and a vocal reconstruction was created in 2018 by GETchan and uploaded by DeroVolk on YouTube as a part of the so-called "Ștefan Neaga Commission" which seeks to find the original vocal recording. The original full vocal recording of the original anthem remains lost.
The rewritten lyrics and recomposed music were preserved and original recordings exist today.
