"Tension Rising in the Air", "Tension in the Air" or "TRITA" is a placeholder name of a snippet of an unidentified song posted on watzatsong.com in 2006 that, since 2023, has resulted in multiple Reddit threads search to seek the full song, as well as its author.

Backstory

On November 1st, 2006, user LORRAIN posted the snippet of the song with no title, making it the 90th snippet ever uploaded to the watzatsong. [1] The tune received little to no traction, with comments arriving 23 days later. Users pianoman74 and prmusic coincided in thinking the song might be from an action film, although they never came to a definite answer.

The post regained traction in early-to-mid 2021 where more users began to show up on the discussion, and, despite several questions made towards LORRAIN about the origin of his recording, nothing has ever been disclosed by them. The only thing known for sure is that they posted another song on the same day as TRITA, which has been identified as "Paper Mask" by Richard Harvey from the Paper Mask soundtrack. A YouTuber named "q" would upload the snippet to YouTube on April 9th, 2023.

Lyrics

There are no known lyric lists. Due to the bad quality of the recording, everything is speculation. The lyrics most commonly agreed upon are:

I'm feelin',

I'm close.

Somethin' spooky like the shade of a ghost.

There's a certain tension risin' in the air.

My head is achin'

Fingers wet.

There are other interpretations, such as:

  • "[...]my hands are shakin', Feeling sweat".

Theories

Soundtrack Theory

Dating back to 2006, user pianoman74 mentioned: "@what is for sure is that it must be from an 80s action flick." prmusic followed with "no clue - even if it sounds a bit like 'Danger Zone' from Top Gun. It's not - I know... but yes - typically 80ies."

Users quickly began to notice what sounds like a sound effect placed over the song near the end of the snippet, with the user jopezum commenting: "hmmmm im pretty convinced that this is like an old action anime opening or something like that." and "If you listen carefully, before the end you can hear the sound effect (airplane engine or "zoom in" effect)"

It is assumed here that LORRAIN possibly heard the song used as part of a soundtrack, be a movie, an edit or an ad, and stopped recording once the sound effect came in -leaving the song unhearable.

Ghost-themed theory

Some users commenting in q's upload to youtube agreed that the song might have been from a ghost-themed show of the 90s, with some others pointing out the show "Ghost Train" as a possible source.
