Just a Game is a mysterious rock song uploaded to WatZatSong on December 22nd, 2018 by user Gabor72.

Backstory

On December 22nd, 2018, a user who went by the name Gabor72 posted the song on WatZatSong asking people if they could name the song. Five years later, on December 9th, 2023, a subreddit for the song called r/NowIKnowItsJustAGame was made to track down the song and the artist's identity.

On March 2nd, 2024, it was discovered that the file posted to WatZatSong turned out to be slightly slowed down than the original version of the song. Two months later, on May 5th, 2024, a Reddit user posted what is believed to be the best possible lead yet found, however, this leader was later debunked.

A day later, on May 6th, 2024, Gabor72 was discovered to have passed away. On May 12th, 2024, a Reddit user in contact with Gabor’s daughter claimed that Gabor didn’t own any vinyls and that the snippet might have instead come from an Italian radio station between 1985 and 1996. Per the words of his daughter, Gabor was an avid fan of Italian music.

Leads/Theories

It may as well be "Just a Game" by the very obscure band 'Millennya' from Norway. The user who claims to own a band's CD has since been contacted, as well as the Discogs owners and the supposed members of Millennya. The subreddit’s moderators have since obligated the subreddit’s users not to contact anyone involved. On the very next day, it was confirmed by members of Millennya themselves that "Just A Gam" was not made by them.

For years, the only snippet from this song known is from Gabor72's upload.

On June 30th, 2024, the full song was found by Reddit user sodapopyarn, who got in contact with Gabor's daughter who has a copy of the song, the post contains a Google Drive link to the full song[1] It was then uploaded to YouTube a day later on July 1st, 2024. In addition, the artist of the song was eventually identified to the band Change To Win on the same day via a confirmation from one of the band's members, Cristopher Bachmeier. A tape containing the masters of the song is in Bachmeier's possession, and is currently being digitized.

-oh.

And now I know, it's just a game

I don't need the rules to play

Maybe it's happy, maybe it's sad

But you can't choose the way to play

And now I know, it's just a game

I don't need the rules to play

Maybe it's happy, maybe it's sad

But you can't choose the way to play-
