Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles debuted as a comic book series in 1984. The series soon expanded into other media with an animated television series debuting in 1987 and several video games also being released. During this time, a film adaptation was planned.
Background
In 1987, New World Pictures proposed a comedy film based on the comic book to star comedians Billy Crystal, Sam Kinison, Bobcat Goldwaith, and Gallagher as the turtles.
The four would have worn shell costumes and painted green skin to appear as turtles. The film would have been aimed at adults and received an R rating.
Plot
The only part of the plot known is that the turtles would fight naked nuns wielding uzis on roller skates. It is unknown if any other characters from the series would have been in it.
Cancellation
The proposed film eventually fell apart after being rejected.
In 1990, a film adaption was released by New Line Cinema and became a massive success at the box office (at the time being the highest-grossing independent movie of all time).
As of now, no material from the comedy version has surfaced.
