Jocco's Mardi Gras Madness (partially found audio from interactive dark ride; 2000-2005)
Jocco's Mardi Gras Madness was an interactive dark ride made by Sally Ride Corporation that ran at the now-defunct Six Flags New Orleans amusement park from 2000 until 2005. Throughout the ride, riders would have to find Jocco in order to retrieve the stolen loot. Outside of the attraction, an animatronic of Jocco would be on the roof of the entrance building enticing people to come in and ride.
Six Flags New Orleans would close on August 21st, 2005, in order to prepare for Hurricane Katrina. The park including most rides was subsequently damaged beyond repair when the park flooded. The only footage of Jocco's Mardi Gras Madness is from a montage video put together by the ride manufacturer and doesn't contain the full audio of the ride.
Plot
A crazy Jester by the name of Jocco and his gang of zombies, skeletons, and kreeps disrupt the Mardi Gras festival by stealing all of the beads and doubloons in New Orleans. In order to stop Jocco, riders must go through the French Quarter, past the docks and a wrecked showboat, through the City of the Dead and into the swamp, braving past ghouls, alligators, and werewolves as well as magically recapture the beads and doubloons.
Ride Experience
Riders would enter the station and load into one car that could fit four people. Riders were tasked with shooting targets in order to get the loot that Jocco stole back. Each target gave riders a different number of points. After the ride, the rider with the most points won. The ride has eleven scenes in total.
Closure
Jocco's Mardi Gras Madness closed on August 21st, 2005, when the Six Flags New Orleans park closed in preparation for Hurricane Katrina.[1] The park was severely flooded when the levees holding back the water failed. This, in turn, damaged the park and Six Flags declined to reopen the park. Six Flags paid three million dollars to the city of New Orleans in September of 2009 to opt-out of the lease on the park.[2]
Availability
As of the writing of this article, only a handful of footage from the ride that includes audio has surfaced. Given the state of the park and how much damage has been caused by years of neglect and decay, it is unlikely that the full audio will be released unless a duplicate copy is stored somewhere else.
