Tropang Trumpo is a Filipino comedy show aired on ABC 5 from March 12, 1994 until its final run on March 13, 1999 and it is lasted for five years.

Information

The show was originally shown on Friday nights with an original cast that included Ogie Alcasid, Michael V., Gelli de Belen, and theatre/voice actors Noni Buencamino, Manny Castañeda, Earl Ignacio, Sheilou Bharwani, Mhalou Crisologo, Ana Abad Santos and Lorna Gay Long. It was moved to Saturday nights in 1995, following the departures of both Ogie Alcasid and Michael V. from the show to join GMA for the rookie comedy show "Bubble Gang". It was later expanded to 90 minutes in 1996, but it later returned to 60 minutes in the show's final run. The show won as Best Gag Show during the 1995 Star Awards for Television and received regional acclaim as "Highly Commended" in the Best Comedy Programme or Series in the 1996 Asian Television Awards held in Singapore. The show was made famous for parodies of real life television shows of the 1990s, along with original segments were made for the show.

Availability

The show was originally aired on Saturday nights on ABC 5 from March 12, 1994 until the show's final run on March 13, 1999. The show frequently re-aired from January 6 to November 17, 2001 in a syndication package, airing in an hour long edited version as "Tropang Trumpo: Ang Orig."

Most segments from the show, along with other ABC 5 shows Wow Mali and Ispup was aired as part of the show Comedy Bites in 2007. 14 years after went off the air, BuKo Channel reran the 1996 episodes of the show from August 7, 2021 until July 31, 2022, with showings of the Associated Broadcasting Company in the opening and closing credits along with the in-credit Please Pray the Rosary in the closing credits are removed from the rerun.

There a lot of clips from the show that are available online but its full episodes are seemingly hard to find with little to no archive of them in the Internet. Only a handful of full episodes can be found in the Internet such as the ones linked below.

Trivia

  • Two segments from the show, "Wow Mali!" and "Ogag" was later purposed as stand alone shows aired on ABC 5. The former was premiered on May 25, 1996 and it is aired on Saturday nights after this program, but after the show's cancellation in 1999, the program was continued airing until it was carried over on TV5, with a 5 year hiatus staring in 2013, while the latter was served from 1996 to 1999.
