The Hewlett-Packard Company (commonly shorten as HP) is an international information technology company headquartered in Palo Alto, California that sells various tech products to businesses and consumers, one of there best selling products being digital cameras along with computers, printers and other various software.
Shrek Camera Ad
In 2003 (or 2004) to advertise the then new HP PhotoSmart 945, Dreamworks produced a tie-in commercial with HP featuring Shrek. The commercial was one of many that the studio developed for HP in the 2000s, while at least 2 commercial are available to watch, the one of featuring Shrek about to take a photo with the camera has not resurfaced, the image was originally posted by iFunny user GXBE in 2018 that became the Shrek's Cringe Compilation meme that went viral that same year.[1]
The Search
Although search attempts for the image's source has been ongoing, it wasn't until February 2022 when Twitter user named Kenny Lauderdale uploaded another image from the ad with Shrek holding a camera from a different angle,[2] Since then The Lost Media Wiki Discord group Lost Commercials Foundation added a channel to find more information on it, they then discovered that the image came from a 2015 blog post from Dreamworks animator Steve McGrath along with a closeup model of the camera used in the ad.[3] Later that same month Twitter user kkkeggg uploaded a full render of the image with a slightly different background speculating it could be the image's source, but is has yet to be officially verified.
In May 2022 LMW user lgweb42 got a reply after sending an email in February to Luca Prasso, the man in the picture inide an office with the Shrek image hanging up on a wall who was the supervisor for Dreamworks at the time stating he remembers said picture but not anything else about the ad.
As of June 2022 no footage or any more material from the ad had resurfaced.
