Siegfried & Roy are a German duo of magicians and entertainers, who became known for their appearances with white lions and white tigers. While the shows usually go well, on October 3rd, 2003, the show went terribly wrong. While many people have heard of the accident, most don't know that '''there was recorded footage of the show'''.
Siegfried and Roy were getting ready for their big night at the Mirage. They heavily rehearsed everything doing things on time. It was 8:00 and people were expecting their normal intro and routine. It was 45 seconds in and the show was going as Siegfried and Roy had planned. But this then turned into trouble. The beautiful white tiger starts to come closer to Roy. It is what a tiger does, it attacks. According to Roy, he felt very dizzy and blurry. So attempting to step forward, he slammed and fell onto the stage floor. Then Roy was in a terrible position where his white tiger Manticore and it didn't respond to any of his actions. An eyewitness says that the tiger then goes right on top of Roy. "The tiger was certainly not in a situation he's never been in before," says one of Animal Planet's big cat expert. "And their brain -- it's all instinctual. This turns to fear."  The tiger then grabs Roy's neck and ultimately drags him. The trainer did come and stopped him. Roy was bleeding on the floor. The show was then canceled and then he was rushed by an ambulance to be sent to the ER. Many people who saw this were shocked. It was also shocking news to the people at home.

After the hospital visit, he was alright. He returned home and was reunited with his animals. The two did come back and did one last show and was impressing to watch. The duo's animals were presented in a zoo like sanctuary where visitors can come and visit them. The AZA has recently banned all white animal breeding because of it harm. Due to the disturbing scenery from the footage taken, the Mirage will most likely not to release the footage of the event to the public and it will be most likely keep it that way.

While the shows usually go well, on October 3rd, 2003, the show went terribly wrong. While many people have heard of the accident, most don't know that there was recorded footage of the show.

Story of the Accident

Siegfried and Roy were getting ready for their big night at the Mirage, which they had heavily rehearsed. Around 45 seconds in, however, a white tiger came closer to Roy and attacked him, shocking everyone in the audience. Roy fell onto the stage floor and the tiger leapt on top of him. The show was swiftly cancelled and Roy, who was bleeding on the floor, was rushed to the ER (he was released from the hospital soon after, albeit with impairments to his motor and verbal abilities).

The Missing Footage

Unbeknownst to the public, the Mirage had recorded the entire attack. However, the Mirage has refused to release the footage to the public out of both respect for Roy's privacy and fear that the media would sensationalize the footage.[1]

Documentaries surrounding the Accident

In 2004, not too long after the incident, the Discovery Channel aired an edutainment program called Anatomy of a Tiger Bite which showcased how dangerous tigers are with the incident being the main subject.[2]. The special included a simulated restaging of the event using motion capture that is directly modeled after eyewitness testimonies including video recordings from audience members.[3]

In 2019, ABC News released a documentary called "Siegfried and Roy: Behind the Magic". It is the 42nd Season: Episode one of the 20/20 segment, surrounding the white tiger attack during Siegfried and Roy's magic show back in 2003. The segment features rise of Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn's fame, the encounter the tiger attack in which changed entertainment in Las Vegas entirely. During the 20/20 segment, a simulation scene is featured to give an idea of how the attack occurred the night of October 3rd in 2003. You can view the 20/20 documentary on the ABC News website or in parts on YouTube. However, the real-life footage is still forever lost. [4] [5]
