Soul Quest Overdrive is a short-lived adult American animated series created by Matt Maiellaro and Dave Willis. The series was a stand-alone spin-off of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, a well-liked and popular animated series created by the same people. It follows the misadventures of four anthropomorphic sports instruments (Mick, Mortimer, Bert, and Tammy), who are drug addicts and have the tendency of being destructive towards other people and their surroundings.[1]

The series debuted on May 24th, 2011, on Adult Swim's 4-am block, "DVR Theatre", airing four of its six total episodes[2][3], and no following episodes had aired prior to the show's debut[1], thus, leaving two episodes unaired.

Originally, the characters from the said episode of ATHF were fruits and was changed to being various sports equipment for the show[1]. Additionally, although the characters were changed from fruit to sport tools, the original voice actors from said ATHF episode was kept and reprised their roles for this series[1][4].

The cast for the series were:

  • David Cross as Bert; an anthropomorphic, impetuous bowling pin.[4]
  • H. Jon Benjamin as Mortimer; an anthropomorphic, sensible baseball glove.[4]
  • Kristen Schaal as Tammy; an anthropomorphic, bullied basketball.[4]
  • Gavin McInnes as Mick; an anthropomorphic, energetic soccer ball.[4]


On July 30th, 2010, Hunter Daniels from Collider.com interviewed the creators' of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, in Comic-Con 2010, where the creators stated that they had 6 episodes made for Soul Quest Overdrive.[5][6]

Broadcast

An episode of the series, entitled "Meals On Wheels", was uploaded online as a part of an online pilot contest, hosted by Adult Swim, on which several pilots from different creators were submitted, and fans and viewers alike can vote for which of the submitted pilots was best to be broadcasted on air and picked up by the network[1]. Unfortunately, the series lost to another pilot entitled "Cheyenne Cinnamon and the Fantabulous Unicorn of Sugar Town Candy Fudge" (also shortened as Cheyenne Cinnamon), created by Dave Willis and Matt Harrigan[7][8]. Even though Cheyenne Cinnamon won the contest, the show was never picked up by the network[7][9], while Soul Quest Overdrive, even that they had lost, was then picked up and to be broadcasted.

On May 24, 2011, four out of the six episodes aired on Adult Swim's old 4-am block, "DVR Theatre"[2][3]. "DVR Theatre" is an Adult Swim block for their 4-am time slot that usually airs re-runs of old shows, and obscure shows alike[10].

Availability

The four aired episodes are readily available on various YouTube videos and on Adult Swim. The unaired pilot for the series is readily available online as well[11]. There are not much information about the last two remaining unaired episodes, having the only existence of these unaired episodes are from said interview from around 2010 where they mentioned having six episodes.[5][6]. It is unclear if these episodes were made and if there are plans to have them aired or released.
