In 1998, concurrent with the 45th anniversary of the introduction of television in the Philippines occurred in 1953, ABS-CBN created a special station ID to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Philippine independence and their road to the new millennium. It is also was the final year to include messages at the end of the station ID which is been in use since 1989, after January 1, 1999, the network no longer showing messages at the end of the ID, but they continued only on the promos until December 31 of the same year.
Premise
On a black satin background, the gold rings is spinning and a straight line on a box when they zoom out, then the "ABS" and "CBN" text completing the logo, the logo zooms out when the "In Service of the Filipino" slogan appears on the bottom. The Philippine flag was superimposed over the logo and the slogan. When the ID completes, a red satin background showing the finished logo zooming out and moves to the left, the National Centennial Commission-authorized Philippine Centennial logo appears in the middle, and the Sarimanok stamp (commissioned by Philpost in 1996) transforms to the Philippine flag on the right, along with the messaging on the top ends the ID. The ID also has the 1993 Sarimanok era theme music and voiceover saying "Ito po ang ABS-CBN. Patuloy nalilikod sa sambayang Pilipino sa Ika-100 taon ng kaunahang republika sa buong Asya, at pag-salubong ng bansa sa bagong siglo."
Another variant was also made in the network PSA for the 1998 Presidential Elections, with the same animation, a different satin background, and the same musical theme was heard throughout the tag, but with the voiceover saying "Ito po ay isang pa rin muting handog ng ABS-CBN sa pagdiriwang ng Ika-100 taon ng kaunahang republika sa buong Asya, at sa papataguyod sa kinabukasan ng kabataan Pilipino."
There is a another variant made for the 1998 Holiday Season as part of the network's "Pasko Punong-puno ng Puso" campaign with the same animation and background, the 1993 Sarimanok era theme background music has been replaced with the song "Sa Araw ng Pasko" by the Star Records Artists was heard.
Availability
This ID served as a station ID before the program starts from January 1 to December 31, 1998. However from February 5 to March 6 of that same year, a network cross-promotion countdown bumper for the forthcoming inaugural season of the Metropolitan Basketball Association on Studio 23 scheduled for March 7 was aired before this ID, and from October to December in the same year, another countdown bumper related to the new millennium was also aired before the same ID as well. This ID was also aired in tandem with the 45th Philippine Television Anniversary station ID from October to December in the same year. On January 26, 2019, View on the 3rd - Jojo Bailon found the ID (the MBA countdown/ID combo variant) on an early morning sign-on aircheck of ABS-CBN on February 11, 1998.[1] An high-quality version of the ID was also found by UndustFixation in August of 2024 and premiered on September 1, 2024. [2] The Christmas Variation of the special ID has not yet to resurface.
