Status: Existence Unconfirmed

Astro Boy is a manga series created by Osamu Tezuka. It has spawned numerous adaptations on television, films, and video games. It has been adapted into anime thrice, in 1963, 1980, and 2003. In 2009, a CGI film adaptation was released, receiving mixed reviews.

However, a live-action film adaptation was announced on February 4, 2015, with Animal Logic producing the film in collaboration with Tezuka Productions and Ranger 7 Films. It was going to be produced by Zareh Nalbandian, and the executive producers were going to be Jason Lust and Mike Callaghan.[1].

In February 2016, Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore announced that they would start working on the script. Still, there was no director or casting. New Line Cinema was selected to distribute the film.[2] Had it been released, it would've not been the first live-action adaptation, since there was already a tokutatsu TV series that aired from 1959 to 1960.

Possible Cancellation and Availability

The last new information on the development of the live-action film adaptation was in February 2016, and it is unknown what happened after people were hired to write the script. In other words, it is unknown if the script was ever worked on at all. It is also unknown if a director was hired to produce the film, or if any casting has occured. Given that there has been no information concerning the progress of the film for 8 years, it is assumed that the project was abandoned. As of now, the existence of the script is unconfirmed.
