On October 7, 2016, a month and one day before the 2016 United States presidential election, audio recordings of Republican Party candidate Donald Trump making lewd comments with Access Hollywood host Billy Bush in 2005 were leaked. In the aftermath, there were claims that Trump made similar comments in the outtakes to The Apprentice, a reality show he hosted between 2004 and 2015.
Claims
Bill Pruitt, a producer on the first two seasons of the show, tweeted on Twitter, “As a producer on seasons 1 & 2 of #theapprentice I assure you: when it comes to the #trumptapes there are far worse.”
Television producer Chris Nee claimed in a (now deleted) tweet that several producers who worked on The Apprentice told her that footage existed of Trump saying “n----r” in outtakes.
Comedian and actor Tom Arnold claimed to have seen footage of Trump saying various slurs and insults in the outtakes. Additionally, he claimed that the footage he saw was various clips edited together. Arnold said that he refused to release the footage, fearing repercussions (Trump won the election).
Availability
No footage of these outtakes has been released, if they even existed in the first place. The show’s producer, Mark Burnett, has threatened legal action against anybody who releases any of the outtakes.
